Community Day 2002

 
     
  The Emmitsburg Lions Club proudly announces it's 20th Annual Community Day to be celebrated on Saturday, July 6, 2002. This year's theme will be "Freedom United" as a tribute to all Americans and what we have endured as a unified nation since 9-11. Most of the day's activities will be centered at or near the Emmitsburg Community Center, the Vigilant Hose Company, and the Emmitsburg Park (west of the Emmitsburg Elementary School).

Activities will include:

6:30-10:00 a.m. - Community Breakfast at the Vigilant Hose firehouse served by the Vigilant Hose Auxiliary.

9:00 a.m. - All Community Breakfast Program (click for details) at the firehouse in honor of Dr. William H. Carr, Mayor of Emmitsburg from May 1994-May 2002, with Wayne Powell, Public Information Officer as Master of Ceremonies.

10 a.m. until sold - The ever popular Emmitsburg Lions' chicken barbecue dinners available in front of the Community Center. The Lions will be assisted by the Borderline 4x4 Club.

10:00 a.m.-1:00 p.m. - Traditional games including tug of war, egg toss, three leg race, balloon toss, watermelon, pie eating contests, and more!

11 a.m. - until - Bingo at the Ambulance Building.

11 a.m.-2 p.m. - Emmitsburg Parks and Recreation sponsored pony rides, face painting, and moon bounce.

1 p.m. - Horseshoe pitching contest in front of the Community Center. Please note that registration closes at 12:45 p.m.

2-4 p.m. - "Closest to the pin" golf contest behind the Community Center.

2-4 p.m. - Tower 6 demonstration and rides sponsored by the Vigilant Hose Fire company.

4-5:30 p.m. - Registration at the Community Center for the Larry Noel Memorial Mile Run.

6 p.m. - Larry Noel Memorial Mile Run on the parade route.

6:05 p.m. - Parade from the Doughboy Monument on West Main St. to the Community Center. This year's Grand Marshals are Bo and Jean Cadle, founders and publishers of the Emmitsburg Regional Dispatch (retired).

7 p.m. - "Freedom United" Program (click for details) with address by Dr. William H. Carr followed by live music featuring the Dixie Hiway Band from the end of program until 9:30 p.m. 

9:45 p.m. - Emmitsburg's annual fireworks show presented by Zambelli.
