Spearheaded by the persistent
dream of Emmitsburg Lion President Cliff Sweeney, the Francis Scott Key, Thurmont,
Middletown, and Emmitsburg Lions embarked on a collaborative campaign of preschool vision screenings for children throughout Frederick County's YMCA-Head Start centers.
Participating Lions volunteers from each of these
clubs served as one unified team as they conducted amblyopia and depth perception screenings for 274 children in 7 of
Frederick area's early learning facilities.
District 22-W, Region III's PSVS cooridinator Lion
John Hopson, himself a volunteer in this endeavor,
was elated with the success of Lions clubs working
together. We Serve.

On
October 8, 2014 our morning screenings were
conducted at the Children's Center in Walkersville
and that of our afternoon at the YMCA-Head Start
Center in Frederick. Photos below were taken that
date of FSK Lions John, Lynn, and Duane, Middletown
Lion John, and Emmitsburg Lions Cliff, Sharon,
Marilyn, Jenni, Bill, and Joe, with Emmitsburg Lion
Rachel taking the photos. The children's faces are
not in view of the camera, but trust me they were
adorable. Additional Lions who participated in this
collaborative effort through the months of September
and October, 2014 were Lions PDG Paul Cannada and
Joyce of Thurmont, Lions Toni and Paul from FSK, and
Lion Mary from Emmitsburg. |
